What is a Float Value?
Every skin in CS2 has a float value - a number between 0.00 and 1.00 that determines how worn the skin appears. Lower float = less worn and typically more valuable.
Wear Conditions Explained
Float values are grouped into 5 wear conditions. Here's how they break down:
| Condition | Float Range | Abbreviation |
|---|---|---|
| Factory New | 0.00 - 0.07 | FN |
| Minimal Wear | 0.07 - 0.15 | MW |
| Field-Tested | 0.15 - 0.38 | FT |
| Well-Worn | 0.38 - 0.45 | WW |
| Battle-Scarred | 0.45 - 1.00 | BS |
Why Float Values Matter
1. Appearance
A skin with float 0.01 will look much cleaner than one with float 0.06, even though both are Factory New. Scratches, wear marks, and fading all increase with higher floats.
2. Value
Low float skins are rarer and more valuable. A 0.001 float skin can be worth many times more than a 0.06 float of the same skin.
3. Float Caps
Not all skins can drop in all conditions. Each skin has a minimum and maximum float value. For example:
- AWP | Asiimov can only drop 0.18 - 1.00 (no FN or MW exists)
- AK-47 | Vulcan drops 0.00 - 0.70 (no Battle-Scarred exists)
Float Hunting Tips
- Low float FT can beat MW: A 0.15 Field-Tested looks nearly identical to Minimal Wear but costs much less.
- Check the playside: Float affects the whole skin, but wear often concentrates on specific areas. Inspect before buying.
- Rounded floats are special: Floats like 0.0001 or 0.420 can command premium prices from collectors.
